New Design Team Placement!

It's official! I am very excited to announce that I am one of the new justjohanna Design Team members!

justjohanna is a stamp company from the USA that manufactures and sells a beautiful collection of fun and fanciful wood mounted stamp designs that are suited to both stampers and scrapbookers alike.

I am one of 9 new members to join the team - comprising of 26 very talented ladies from all over the world! You can see who else made the team here.

It's a 6 month position from June 1 to Nov 30 2008 and I am looking forward to what the next 6 months will bring!

You can see the range of stamps in the catalogue and purchase directly from justjohanna in the USA, or through Lime Tart which is the distributor of justjohanna stamps in Australia & New Zealand.

And never fear - I am still a very proud and happy member of the Scrapbook Savvy Design Team as well! :)

Renee D's Photo Challenge - May 08!

This month, Renee's photo challenge was to capture an image (one distinct object/animal/element) in mid air/flight ( or even falling), with the image in the foreground of your shot.

You can see Renee's example here.

Here is my example:
I took the photo with my Canon DSLR set to "Close Up" mode. As the bubble was a moving object, I first locked the focus on the bubble blower and then moved it out of shot - hoping that the bubble would get in the shot and stay in focus! Which it did eventually!

This was a really hard challenge - it took many attempts - and it was a two person job! I had to get my Mum to create the bubbles while I took the shots!

But I'm glad I persevered because I think it looks pretty cool! I love how you can see my mum's arm holding up the bubble blower on both sides of the bubble - and how you can really see the oily texture of the bubble!

Thanks for looking!

The Savvy Celebrity Spotlight on Fleur Broughton!

Today my Savvy Celebrity Spotlight is shining on well published scrapper and ScrapFX design Team member Fleur Broughton!

I have always liked Fleur's work when I have seen her pages in the scrapbooking magazines, and I recently got to see her pages in person on the ScrapFX booth at the SIA trade show! They were awesome!

Check out my interview with Fleur here.

Fleur is also an Independent Stampin' Up demonstrator, so if you would like to get your hands on an IDEA BOOK & Catalogue, or to book your own WORKSHOP, you can contact Fleur via her blog!

My Savvy Saver Layout!

This month it was my turn to do the "Savvy Saver" layout - i.e a layout created for less than $5.00!

It was soooo hard to limit myself like this! I'm a total product junkie and I love using all the latest and greatest, so it was really hard to hold back for this layout!

Here is what I came up with:

This layout only cost $3.40 to make! The only thing I purchased was 2 x sheets of Fancy Pants patterned paper and the rest came from my stash or the recycling bin!

I have used:

* Fancy Pants patterned paper
* Acrylic paint stamped on with recycled bubble wrap
* Recycled cardboard from packaging
* Ink, ZIG Writer.

I used my computer to print out the title onto the recycled cardboard, then cut each letter out with fine tipped scissors. I gave the letters texture by running them through my cuttlebug with an embossing folder. I used the same cardboard for the photo mat.

I inked all the edges with brown ink, and I created the "buttons" using a circle hole punch and an anywhere hole punch.

See - you can create great pages on a budget! You can check out the past Savvy Saver layouts by the other DT girls here - now you'll have no excuse not to get scrapping! :)

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted - it has been super busy here of late and I have been sick! But I'm back now with a layout to share!

I was recently lucky enough to be asked by Becky Fleck of PageMaps to create a sample layout for her May newsletter!

PageMaps is a great site that has sketches or "page maps" to use as inspiration to create scrapbooking layouts and cards in all shapes and sizes! I love Becky's sketches - I often use her sketches when I create my layouts.

Here is the sketch I got to work with:

And here is my layout:

That's me and my daughter! :)

This sketch was for her "SideMaps" which are for horizontal 8.5" x 11" sized scrapbooking pages. You can see my page and the other great SideMaps sketches and examples here as well as the new 12"x12" PageMaps here.

I just recently bought Becky's new book - "Scrapbook PageMaps: Sketches for Creative Layouts". It's fantastic - I've already used it to create a few layouts! It has these great cards with it that you can take along to crops etc if you're in need of some inspiration without having to bring the whole book. It's soooo cheap at Amazon at the moment and only takes about 2 weeks to get to Australia - and it's well worth the wait when even with postage you're looking at paying about half what you would pay in stores in Australia!

If you're ever stuck for ideas on how to lay out your next page or card, visit Becky's extensive archive section - there's LOTS of inspiration there!

Thanks for looking!

Sarah's Random Challenge! May '08.

This month I have chosen a colour combination for my Scrapbook Savvy Random Challenge!

Your task is to create a layout using only Black, White, Pink, and Green!

Here is my example:

Believe it r not, it wasn't until I was half way through the page that I realised I was sing the Scrapbook Savvy website colours to create my page! LOL!! I picked the colour combination, because I had new papers spread out on my scrap-desk and the colours just jumped out at me!!

I have used:

* Fancy Pants patterned paper
* Kaisercraft patterned paper
* Teresa collins patterned paper
* Prima felt daisy (these are sooo nice!).
* American Crafts Thickers letters
* CC tiny letter stickers
* Ink, black cardstock, zig writer, foam mounting tape.

Here's a close up of the Prima Fun Felt Venti Daisies - they are gorgeous - so much nicer than your average silk ones from other brands!

So, get your entries in using this Savvy-tastic colour combo by Midnight 31st May 2008 for your chance to win a $10.00 Scrapbook Savvy Voucher!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's entries! :)
