Julie's July 08 "Word it Up" Challenge!

Recently, the ultra talented Julie Heard, joined the Scrapbook Savvy Design Team! Now, like the rest of us on the team, she will be running a monthly scrapbooking challenge to get your creative mojo flowing! Julie will be running the "Word It Up" challenges, which will focus on different journaling tasks.

This month, our task was to scrap a catch phrase! Something either ourselves our a family member says all the time!

With 2 young kids in the house, I had a plethora of options for this one! LOL! But I decided to scrap about an unusual saying that my daughter has come up with:

Instead of saying "When I grow up" or "When I'm an Adult", she says "When I'm a Human"!! It's so hilarious!

Here's what I have used to make the page:

* Rose Moka patterned paper
* Kaisercraft Rub ons
* Kaisercraft Rhinestones
* German Scrap Border
* American Crafts Thickers (chipboard letters)
* Carolee's creations letter stickers
* MM journaling book page
* Prima Crystal sicker
* Lil Davis Journaling block stamp
* Heidi Swapp Crown Stamp
* TH Distress Ink - Walnut Stain
* Black ZIG writer; White Inkessentials Opaque pen

Here is a close up:

I gave Julie's ink splatter technique a whirl again too - to add some interest to the bottom of the page. Love this effect!

Check out Scrapbook Savvy for the whole range of Rose Moka "Appel de la Nature" papers.

Thanks for looking!

Mel's Savvy Scraplift - July '08.

This month, our task for Mel's Savvy Scraplift was to scraplift this page by Sandie Mallon.

Here is my take on the challenge:

This is a photo of my husband's great grandmother taken back in 2005. She turned 93 this year! Unfortunately, her health has deteriorated recently, so I thought it would be nice to create a layout to celebrate the milestone of her 90th birthday, when she was happy, healthy, and still going strong.

I have used:

* Basic Grey patterned paper (Euphoria range).
* Jenni Bowlin patterned paper.
* Bazzill cardstock.
* Heidi Swapp damask sticker.
* Basic Grey rub on.
* Grungeboard numbers.
* Inks, crackle medium.
* German Scrap border.
* CC tiny letter stickers.
* Crocheted flower.
* Bling brad.
* Machine sewing.
* Kasiercraft Pearls.
* AC thickers.
* TH distress ink - walnut stain.

I inked the Grungeboard numbers with pink & magenta inks, and then coated them with Ranger Crackle Accents for a distressed look. Here is a close up:

I made the page quite bright and vibrant, to tie into the top she is wearing in the photo, but I still wanted to use elements traditionally suited to nannas, so I used a crocheted flower, pearls, machine sewing, and some white frilly lace (German Scrap border). Here is a close up of some of the layering and textures on the page:

This challenge was definitely a step out of my comfort zone! These are not colours I would usually work with, but I am really happy with the end result!

Thanks for looking! :)

LOVE this song!

I was watching Oprah on Friday, and I saw this guy perform this song:

Watch it on you tube here.

It's called "Lost Without You" by Robin Thicke. You will remember him from this song.

Enjoy! :)

Goodbye and Hello!

Well, it is often said that as one door closes, another one opens up! Well, for me that is no exception!

You may have noticed that the banners (or "blog bling" as I like to call it!) in my sidebar have changed a little!

Here is the goodbye:

As of last month, I have resigned from the justjohanna Odd Bird Planet design Team. Unfortunately my other commitments meant that I could not keep up with the high demand of that team, so I made the decision to leave. I thank Johanna for the opportunity to be on that team, and enjoyed being amongst all the other talented designers.

Which brings me to the Hello!!:

I am pleased to announce that I am the newest member of the blogging team at Aussie Scrapbooking!
You can read my "Introducing" post here.

I will be blogging there about all things scrapbooking, so make sure you check back regularly to see what me and the other team members have been up to! :)

Don't worry, I will still continue to blog here, and of course at Inkurable Stampers! You can't get rid of me that easily! LOL!!

July 08 Savvy Sketch Challenge!

Well, I've finally managed to complete another layout! Nothing like leaving it to the last minute, hey?!!

Here is my example for this month's Savvy Sketch challenge:

I have used:

* Rose Moka patterned paper.
* Rose Moka letter stickers.
* American Crafts Thickers letters.
* Maya Road sheer scalloped note card.
* Kaisercraft rub ons.
* Tim Holtz distress ink - walnut stain (both ink pad, and re-inker).
* Black ZIG writer, bazzill cardstock, CD writer pen.

How gorgeous are those Rose Moka papers! Diane has the whole "Appel de la Nature" range in store, and whatever is out of stock at the moment, is on it's way again!

I've tried out Julie's ink splatter technique on this layout, which was really fun, and I think it really added an extra something to the page! Check out the technique and give it a go on your next layout! :)

Be sure to get your entries in for this month's sketch challenge! You could win a $25.00 Scrapbook Savvy voucher for your efforts!

Messing with Photoshop.

Today I have been fiddling around with a photoshop tutorial on Jessica Sprague's blog. The "ShaZAM" technique is great and really does improve your photos with little effort! Check out Jessica's tutorial here.

I decided to give it a go on some shot's from my friend's wedding, and it worked a treat! I can see I'll be using this technique a lot in future!

Here is the groom in my before and after shots:

Wowee! What a difference!

Thanks for looking! Have a great weekend! :)

Everything Old Is New Again!

This is the layout that I created for the "Everything Old Is New Again" newsletter challenge for Scrapbook Savvy.

Each month, one of the DT girls has to create a layout using something old from their stash! July was my month, and I chose to use metal embellishments!

I have used:

* Dream Street patterned papers.
* Heidi Swapp Ghost letters.
* Alcohol Ink (Stream).
* MM round metal letters.
* Delish Designs rub-ons.
* Metal photo corners.
* Metal frame.
* Gesso.
* Lace.
* "Jumbo Java" versamark ink.

When I first started scrapbooking, metal embellishments (particularly by "Making Memories" were very popular, and I loved them! I bought heaps of different kinds - most of which are still sitting in my drawer! My friend and fellow DT mate Julie Heard suggested I go for a shabby chic look by applying white paint on them - so that's what I did! Thanks Julie! :)

Here is a close up of the different embellishments I used:

The letters and the hands are both from Making Memories, and the frame and photo corners were from a discount store.

I applied Gesso (you can also use white paint) to each piece, then sanded, scratched, and wiped away the excess until I got the look I wanted.

Why don't you get out your metal embellishments and give this technique a go! We'd love to see your creations in the Scrapbook Savvy gallery!

Well, can you believe that half the year has gone already??! Crazy! With the beginning of a new month, comes a new Random Challenge!

This month, your challenge is to create a 6"x12" layout! It can be any theme / colour combination, and you can either do a vertical page or a horizontal page - it's up to you!

Here is my example (click to enlarge):

I have used:

* Cosmo Cricket patterned paper (Fleuriste Collection).
* Cosmo Cricket die cut shapes.
* Cosmo Cricket blackboard shapes.
* Grungeboard letters.
* Glimmer Mist (Coffee Shop).
* Carolee's creations letter stickers.
* TH Distress Ink - Walnut Stain.
* Brads, bazzill cardstock, metal photo corner, Kaisercraft pearl.

This is such a fun size to create a layout with! Go on - get our of your comfort zone and try something different!

I used a sketch by Becky Fleck of Pagemaps for the design of my layout. She has some very nice half page maps there - check them out here if you need some inspiration for this challenge (under "Half Maps"):

Here is a close up of the glimmermist on the Grungeboard letters:

They really go well together! I also used the glimmer mist on the Cosmo Cricket Blackboard flower at the bottom of the page.

Upload your entry into the Scrapbook Savvy Gallery by midnight 31st July for your chance to win a $10.00 SCRAPBOOK SAVVY VOUCHER!

I hope you'll take on the challenge! :)
