Photo Share!

Just a quick post to share with you this photo that I took at the beginning of January. (Click on the image to bring up a full size version).

We were just leaving my husband's parents' farm in Childers, Queensland, when I noticed the most amazing rainbow - so I just had to get a shot of it!

So I climbed up near their dam and got this shot - you can see the Sugar Cane train railway crossing at the bottom of the photo.

I'm no photographer, but I like this shot!

I now have a Canon 400D SLR and am working on improving my photography, so hopefully I'll have some better shots to share with you in the future!

Until next time

PS: Only 2 more days until my birthday - and you get the presents! Check back on Wednesday for your chance to win some scrapping goodies!

Basic Grey January Sketch Layout

I get a newsletter from Basic Grey emailed to me every month. As well as lots of yummy eye candy, they have a monthly sketch for you to use to create a layout! No prizes - just for fun!

I created this layout using the January Sketch. The sketch is by Becky Fleck from Pagemaps.

I adore these pictures of my parents holding my sister Liza. The originals were only 3 and a half inches square. Did I mention how much I love my scanner??!

I am sooo lucky to have had a father and an uncle who always had the camera out. It's great to be able to peek into my parents' life before I was born. Don't they look like such cool people?!! The photos are from 1970.

I have used the "Scarlet's Letter" range of papers from Basic Grey. I made the "Love" tag using Making Memories Clear Vintage Funky Alphabet letters, and Delish Designs rub ons.

The lyrics are from a song by Madness (well, I know the Madness version from the 80's - not sure if it was previously released by someone else! My sisters would know.). Kinda fitting, because Madness were one of both of my sisters favourite bands in the 80's!

Thanks for looking!

January 1,2,3 Challenge entry!

Here is my entry for the January 123 Challenge!

Criteria:

* Use Red somewhere on your layout
* Use your cutting knife / scalpel
* Title as part of the journalling

I have used: Basic Grey patterned paper, Rachel Greig patterned paper, Scenic Route patterned paper, Scenic Route Chipboard letters, Basic Grey alpha stickers, red texta, black ZIG writer, Bazzill Cardstock, Dimensional Magic, red brads, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - "Vintage Photo".

I coloured the Basic Grey letter stickers with my texta to get them to the shade of red that I wanted. I used my craft knife to cut out the journalling strips and the question mark. I coated the question mark in dimensional magic to make it stand out. I tinted the Rachel Greig patterned paper with the "Vintage Photo" ink to make it darker so that the journalling strips stood out more.

I'm making a conscious effort of late to use up what's in my stash instead of buying new stuff (my dentist is sending me broke) and I think I'm doing pretty well so far! Until the new Basic Grey ranges come out..........

Thanks for looking!

January Scrapjack Layout!

Aussie Scrapjacked is a scrapbooking challenge website where once a month they feature a well known scrapbooker and one of their layouts, and it is your job to "Scrapjack" or "Scraplift" their layout which basically means you create your own layout based on or inspired by the orginal layout.

This month, the well known scrapbooker was Kim Archer.

For the very first time, I took the Scrapjack challenge, and here is my layout!

You can see the original layout by Kim Archer here.

Scrapbooking Memories!

The latest issue of Scrapbooking Memories has just been delivered to my doorstep - and one of my layouts is published in it! Yay!
It's the first time I've been in Scrapbooking Memories, and it's actually the first layout that I ever had accepted into a magazine. Believe it or not, I got the acceptance in May last year! It's been a long time coming, but I'm glad to see it finally in print!

The colours are a bit off in the mag, so here's a better pic of it:

It's much more Black, White and Red looking is real life.

I've used the "Scarlet's Letter" range of patterned papers by Basic Grey.

For those of you playing at home - it's on page 100 of Volume 9 No 9!

Until next time.....

My Latest Layouts.

Well I've finally created my first layouts for 2008!

I created this layout titled "Linda" for the Scrapbook Savvy January 08 Sketch Challenge. As I'm now part of the design team, I'm not eligible for the prize, but I wanted to do it just for fun!

I've used Kasiercraft patterned papers from the "Elegance" collection.
The clock on the layout is a Stamp by Rachel Greig called "Roman Clock".

The next page was created for the January Sketch Challenge at Anna's Craft Cupboard.
I've used Cosmo Cricket patterned papers from the "Gretel" collection.

The Photos are from when my Mum had her First Holy Communion ceremony.

My scrabooking goal for 2008 is to create 60 layouts! Being part of a design team again should make this an easy goal - and if I reach it I'm going for 100! 2 down, 58 to go!
I also plan on entering more online challenges and submitting more layouts and card projects for magazine publication. So, this should all give me plenty of eye candy to share with you here! Wish me luck!

Mr Dick Sticker Update:
Mr DS has arrived at Jayne's house, and her creations are now up on her blog - you can see them here. She has made some very clever and funny cards!
And there has been a revelation! A few people have been wondering where they can get their hands on a Mr DS stamp, so Rachel asked Robin Beam (the stamp's original owner) where he came from. Here's the funny part - she can't remember because he was originally an UNMOUNTED stamp! Yep that's right, she mounted him!! LOL! Robin will now go down in history as being the woman who mounted Mr Dick Sticker!!! LMAO!
So it is still a mystery as to which company made him - but I'll let you know here if his origin is ever discovered!

Speaking of Rachel - she is currently having a sale until the end of January, so check out her site - everything is 30-75% off! Stamps, papers, cards, prints - grab yourself a bargain today!

A big thank you goes out to everyone who has stopped by and left a comment! I really appreciate all your lovely thoughts and wishes!

Enjoy your day!

Magazine Feature!

I was going to wait until the official release date to share it with you all, but I'm just too excited, so I've decided to share it with you now!

I have a 2 page feature on Masking in Scrapbooking Basics magazine #2! I've had card projects published before in Australian Papercrafts magazine, but this is my first layout project! It's actually the first layout I've had in print! Also very excited that a pic from my feature ended up on the cover! (Top right hand pic!).

Here's what the feature looks like:

and here's a close up of the layout and feature intro:

I wrote the article myself, and lent them the mask, paint, and papers for the "how to" photos.

Jessica is so excited - every time she sees it she yells "I'm in a Magazine"!! Oscar loves it too!

The feature is on pages 18 and 19 - the magazine hits shelves on the 23rd of January, so keep a look out for it in your local newsagency or Lincraft store!

Mr DS in all his glory!

Well here's what I came up with using the Mr Dick-sticker stamp! It was very challenging to come up with something decent and original, but I'm pretty happy with all of them!

I'll go through them one by one so you can get a closer look, and I'll list the materials too in case anyone is interested.

Hello Sweetie!

This is just a funny little gift card I made. I suppose you could use it for a Valentines Day card or just a card to give someone a giggle!

Materials:
Bazzill cardstock (Maraschino and Bitter Chocolate), Basic Grey Paper (from Blush range), Manila folder, Jet Black Archival Ink, Chatterbox Ribbon, Black ZIG Writer, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - "Walnut Stain", Crafty Secrets clear stamps from "Coffee & Tea" set.

G'Day from Downunder!

What kind of Aussie would I be if I didn't make some sort of "Down under" joke with this stamp?!! A bloke in speedos just screams "Australia" so I couldn't resist the urge to turn Mr DS into a bronzed Aussie - complete with Southern Cross speedos!!

Don't look too closely - you'll see some white embossing powder that went astray! You see, I originally had him in White speedos, but he looked as if he was wearing a nappy and it freaked me out, so I changed them to yellow! LOL!

Materials:
Bazzill cardstock (Maraschino, Bitter Chocolate, Lemonade), American crafts paper, Basic Grey letter stickers, EK Success Bookworks mini letter stickers, Black ZIG Writer, "Celebrations of Australia" embossing powder, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - "Walnut Stain".

God of Inspiration!

I'm a Card maker and Scrapbooker normally, so I thought I'd try my hand at a little Mixed-Media artwork for something different!

When I look at Mr DS, he reminds me of an Adonis, or even a more modest version of Michelangelo's "David". So I wanted to create some sort of God-like angelic type figure - so I came up with the idea for the God of Inspiration! (I had originally planned to use the word "Muse" instead of "god", but the Muses were women, so it just wasn't right! LOL!). Does anyone recognise the face??! LOL! I thought about who I held in the highest of regards and just had fun with it! Yep, you guessed it! That's none other than Mr Tim Holtz!
What better way to pay homage to the King of Papercrafts, (my personal God of Inspiration)! LMAO! I hope he likes it and that it doesn't freak him out too much! LOL! It's all in good fun! Tim, if you're out there - I'm sorry! LOL!

I got Tim's face from the packaging of one of the Paint Dabber Cases that I got for Christmas. INTERESTING FACT!: That photo was actually taken by none other than Rachel Greig! (The owner of Mr DS!).

Here's a close up so you can see the depth.

Materials:
4"x4" Jasart Canvas, Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint - "Peeled Paint", Tim Holtz Distress Ink - "Walnut Stain", Paper Trunk paper (for wings), Heidi Swapp Clear Stamps - Wings, American Crafts paper (for Mr DS), Jet Black Archival Ink, MM metal alphas, unknown metal letters, screw brads, Tim Holtz Grungeboard elements (crown and nameplate), Celebrations of Australia embossing powder, Kaisercraft bling jewels, EK Sucess Bookworks mini alpha stickers, VersaMagic Jumbo Java ink, double sided foam mounting tape.

Well, that's it from me! I hope you have enjoyed my creations! I had a lot of fun experimenting and am stoked that I got the opportunity to do so!

Please leave a comment to let me know what you think! I read them all and would love to hear from everyone who comes here to check out Mr DS, so post a comment even if it is just to say Hi and let me know where you are from!

And don't forget to come back again! I have more exciting stuff on the way!

Until next time....
